Trakehners for the win at The Fork

One of my goals with keeping a blog is to keep track of the breeds and bloodlines es that are competing at the highest level of the sport. This weekend at The Fork 4*, we saw two horses by the same sire, Windfall, finish in the top two places at the 4* level. I think that counts as important bloodline news!

Doug Payne, on Vandiver, a 17 year old Trakehner gelding (by Windfall out of a Trakehner mare, Visions of Grandeur) completed all three phases without adding any points to his dressage score to take the top finish.

Boyd Martin rode Tsetserleg, a 14 year old Trakehner gelding (by Windfall, out of a Trakehner mare, Thabana M) to finish in 2nd place after adding only 4.4 points to their dressage score.

I would call that one heck of a legacy for the breeding program of Timothy and Cheryl Holekamp, who brought Windfall to the United States and campaigned him through the Advanced and Olympic level with Darren Chiacchia in the irons. On their farm website they have an excellent bio of Windfall. The detail of their bio illustrates how a purposeful breeding program deeply rooted in successful horses can continue to produce top level horses.
